At Ed’s Precision Manufacturing, LLC, one of our specialties is short run production of large parts. We manufacture this large diameter steel plate, used in an offshore drilling application, in quantities of 5-25 per order for just-in-time delivery to the customer.
The highly efficient and easily repeatable multi-step manufacturing process for this alloy steel plate starts on our heavy duty, advanced technology CNC lathe, where the outer diameter is turned to 20″, and turning and boring techniques are used to create an inner diameter of 10.5″. Additional operations, carried out on a CNC mill, involve drilling the holes along the outer diameter, and boring the holes and milling the slots along the inner diameter. The part, finished to 32 Ra, is inspected to ensure that all features are with the tight ±.001 tolerances required in the customer specification.
